September 2012 – The K-Cup patent expires in September 16th of 2012 allowing companies to make their own variety of K-cup. This opens the doors for small companies looking to make private label K-Cups. Does this mean we will see Walmart varieties of K-Cups? Will Maxwell House and Eight O’Clock coffee fill up the shelves in the coffee aisle? With the space the K-Cup boxes take up on the shelves, there will be an endless variety of private label kcups with little room in stores. Guessing this will boost the sales of the Keurig coffee machines as some coffee drinkers may have avoided the Keurig because their favorite variety of coffee was not available. Good coffee times ahead!!
