This summer (2010) Starbucks is planning to test market drinks made from green coffee beans. These are unroasted coffee beans which will be used to produce a drink that does not taste like coffee.

Green coffee beans do not even smell like coffee, and these drinks are aimed at the non-coffee drinker. The drinks will have a mix of fruit and the green coffee extract. The balance of fruit juice and green coffee will create a drink which bears NO coffee taste, and less caffeine than a standard coffee.

The name for these drinks will be “Refreshers”, and will be test marketed in stores in the San Diego area. If all goes well, it will expand to other Starbucks stores.

Sounds like a great idea, but maybe not for people who would rather drink an actual coffee.
